Just curious if any of you girls sew? It has become like therapy for me and I love it now that I have it somewhat figured out. LOL! My girls love the outfits I make for them and get upset when I make outfits for other people. LOL!

If you sew, what do you sew? Are you addicted to collecting fabric like I am? I will try and take a picture of my stash later today. Now remember I just started this stash. LOL!

I'll only comment a little because I can't say YES! I want to sew badly!!!! I might just have a chance to teach myself now that I'm a little less stressed---

In your search to begin, did you by chance come across websites that had good instructional videos? I'd love some as basic as threading a dang bobbin and such---

Jennifer I love it and yes you should have more time for it. I recommend that you find a good fabric store around there and take a class. The fabric/quilt shop that I go to did just what you are wanting. From threading your machine, winding the bobbin and etc. It was a great class.

Videos are good and I think you will understand what I am saying when I say this. There is nothing like personal instruction b/c you can ask your questions.

I told Abby when she turned 6 (in June) that I would teach her. She asks me everyday now, "Mommy how much longer before my birthday? I just want to sew." LOL!

How cute! I always wanted my mom to teach me how to sew, but she wouldn't. Lucky for me I'm good at learning something by reading about it. I also took Home Ec. in junior high.
I mostly make quilts and sew things for my house. I made the baby's sheets and love them. I was trying to sell diaper bags for a little while, but couldn't seem to get that going. People are so used to how cheap mass produced stuff is that they don't want to pay for the time and materials I put into things.
The dresses you make are so cute Paige!

Nope, can't sew a stitch. BUT ... when Anna was in kindergarten, for show and tell she pulled up the hem of her jumper, which was taped up with duct tape and showed the class how her mom fixed her jumper! LOL ... whatta kid!

The only sewing I do is hand stitching on layouts. I don't even have a sewing machine any more. I use fabric on layouts and projects and buy lots of the end lots at Jo's when I can. Hand stitching for me is very soothing. I've done some small projects as gifts for Christmas. I've even printed pics on some plain fabrics and added hand stitching to them.

I used to sew ALL the time. My mom taught me when I was growing up and I stuck with it. I was CLOSE to being able to sew without a pattern (make my own...even took a class on it), but then I stopped all of a sudden. A new hobby (some silly paper craft) started becoming more CONSUMING. I had a HUGE stash myself, and have slowly trimmed it down to make room for my scrappin' supplies :) Fortunately I have a sewing table that stores the machine so I can bring it out an mend (which seems to be all I do with it lately).

Now that Erica is getting bigger, I keep thinking about making some cute outfits for her...one of these days!

One of my fondest memories is of me and my mom wearing matching Easter dresses that she made when I was in the second grade...I thought I was such a BIG GIRL to be dressed like my mom :) Wow, thanks for the trip down memory lane...and the timing couldn't be more appropriate!

Oh yes Paige! I usually make dresses for my girls. I tried shirts for my DH, but he is so picky about the fit and style that I quit. I have several totes full of fabric that I'll do something with someday?! When I get back from Bible study I'll have to post pics. of the dresses I made for Easter.

This is my first post on this forum...How am I going to manage two forums!

I used to be able to sew pretty good. But, that was a long time ago. My mom used to sew all kinds of stuff for me when I was younger. I remember her making a bedspread and canopy for my room. My cousin always reminds me of how my mom used to take her scrap fabric and make her and I Barbie clothes! She still has a box of them that my mom made for her! Once I have the space, I hope to keep my machine out all the time. My oldest is 11 and she loves to play with her sewing machine. I need to get her into some classes.

Kim, do you have 4H in your area. I am an instructor for sewing in 4H and it is a great way for kids to get involved in lessons and other projects. Plus if they get involved in the leadership areas it looks great on there college apps. The cost in our area to get involved is $2.50, so it's really cheap. Anyway call your local Extension Office and see what they have to offer.

I used to sew a lot. I made dresses for my girls, and lots of Halloween costumes. I did some crafty sewing too. But I have not touched my machine in soooo long. When ever my DH says he needs something fixed or hemmed, I tell him to take it in. And of course he replies with, "why did I buy you a $800.00 machine if you won't even fix my pants?" Mind you he bought me that machine 12 years ago and I think the price he says he paid for it goes up every time he complains. LOL

I hope so, because I was feeling pretty creative!  With summer well on its way, I’m getting into the fresh food groove and inspired to try some quick, simple recipes. The bright hues of the vegies reminded me of a garden party, which in turn made me remember I need to sew a few summer table [...]
