My six year old Sizzix machine has died - RIP. I do crops and have loads of dies. Everyone loves the ease of use with the Sizzix. I'm not all that familiar with the new Sizzix brand machines. Should I replace the original machine with another original Sizzix or go for the Big Shot or Big Kick. I don't want to lose the ability to cut through chipboard, fabric, etc. What is the difference in the Big Shot and Big Kick?
TIA!!!
If you have the old sizzix and the large red dies, you need to make sure that you can use them in the other machines. If you only have the thin dies, you are good...they all should work in either machine.
There's a few Sizzix machines on ebay now ...
I work with Scrap-Mart.com at SB consumer shows and they sell just about any die and machine you could ever want...plus give free shipping.
Don't know if this helps you, but I don't know if you have a Cricut machine, but it will cut through thin chipboard, fabric, vinyl, etc. Also, you get many more loads of "die cut" options on one cartridge rather than spending $10 - $20 for each die with Sizzix. I have the same Sizzix machine as yours that just died I believe and I rarely use it. I bought it right before the new ones came out because they were getting rid of it so cheap and puchased just a few dies that I really liked and would use again and again. I get much more for my money with Cricut. Check it out if you don't have one already. Also, if you are interested - I do have a Sizzix Sidekick machine that is still new and still in the box I have been hoping to sell (at a really good price)- this one cuts the small thin dies and the strip thin dies, let me know if you might be interested.
I think you have to have the old style lever Sizzix to do the thick dies, although I am not positive. I have it and a Cricut and debated getting rid of the Sizzix when I got the Cricut, but I find I use both. I have never tried thin chipboard on my Cricut, because sometimes it has trouble with really thick cardstock!
Sorry I can't help. I looked at the Sizzix for a long time and then when the Cricut came out I decided to purchase it. I love it. I also have the Cuttlebug and like it for embossing.
I have used the cricut to cut chipboard, cardstock, thin paper.
I have the Big Shot. They are exactly the same machine, just different colors. Sizzix is owned by Ellison. They used to have separate machines, now I believe they combined and instead of producing two separate lines, they just have one. I love mine and I 'upgraded' from the older lever kind (which I still have) because it has large embossing kits you can purchase for it and some larger dies. But I also have a Cuttlebug. You can use the large red dies from Sizzix in the Cuttlebug-- just be sure to get your sandwich stack correct or you'll spring the Cuttlebug mechanism. Quite frankly, I hesitate to use the large dies that will cut through chipboard and felt with the Cuttlebug because it is a little fragile-- I only use thin dies in it. Particularly if you are using it for crops- I would go with the Big Shot/Big Kick or buy another original Sizzix. I can't speak to the Cricut which I know most people love because I haven't bought one yet. I too have a bunch of dies and just can't quite bring myself to go for the electronic version! Good Luck!
