As a child I was allergic to eggs and strawberries, I am constantlly teased ove the the fact that I won't evem try a small bite to see if I still am. I do not want to take the chance and have to have hives and such. Does any one have a simular problem?

YES!! My nephew was allergic to them until he was in about 1st grade! He totally grew out of it and loves them now! You should try them again just once to see---strawberry shortcake is so wonderful, you have to be able to indulge if you can!!

Having a 6 year old with very severe food allergies to milk, peanuts & beef (outgrew eggs just recently- whoohoo!), I can go on for hours on the subject of food allergies! I totally understand not wanting to give them a try on your own,but what I would recommend is going to your allergist & doing a "food challenge" in the office...they will have you bring the food in & start giving you tiny bits of it, monitoring you all the while & gradually building up the amount .That way you can try it out in a safe environment & if you do still react, they can detect it as it happens & treat you right away & you may just walk out of there with the burden of wondering if you still have those allergies.

Okay, okay...if you are going to pressure me to post....
I used to hate foods and would say I am 'allergic' but in truth I was not, I was just adverse to them. Some I still am...cantaloupe and honeydew. EWWWWWW! But asparagus, now I like it! And there are plenty others, too.

But I do have family members with allergies and there is NO WAY they'd try a food they have a known allergy to, the fear and the resulting physical reaction that is possible is not a risk they are willing to take. I am a tad disgusted that grown people would tease you, a grown woman, about your choice to not ingest foods that have brought on an allergic reaction in the past.

I did do what others suggested and tried a bite of a strawberry and it was a darn good thing I carry an eppie pen with me because I needed it and now I have a mild case of hives. But, thank you I did try it to see if it has changed and now I konw it did not.
I will admit I am a picky eater but am getting better every day..

I don't drink milk at all and I am coming to realize that I may be much worse than I ever thought. My stomach lately is terrible any time I eat something with dairy. NOT GOOD! The beautiful thing is my kiddos only drink soy milk. I don't think the switch over would be to hard for the 3 of us girls it is my DH that it would be hard for.

I, thankfully have not had any food allergies. I didn't know how serious they could be until Friday when the paramedics and fire fighters where called to our Elementary due to a food allergic reaction. What a scary thing, and I don't blame you for not wanting to try those foods that caused reactions before.
Can you get skin testing done for food allergies to see if you are still allergic?
