the good..the bad..and the ugly

Ok, so yesterday my daughter got her report card..so it was not her usual straight A's..mostly B's..I am not thrilled with that- she is in accelerated classes and we expect more than that. I asked if she was proud of it and she said no..ok..good so work on it, improve..move on right?...Wrong- homework not completed. HUH? How is THAT possible.? I see the book..we cross it off as she does it..it's done...I ask..what is this about? Well mama..in 3rd grade we hardly got any homework.and in 4th there… Continue

Another weekend another trip

Well..we hit temps close to 100 this weekend..it was rather WARM! We had plans to head down to Jersey to see my mother in law and brothers in law. But because it was so warm we decided to hit Atsion Lake for a while first. I had never been there, and although my husband grew up right next door he hadn't been to the lake in over 25 yrs! WEll..at first it was a little strange.my husband told me it was cedar water..I had never seen anything like that. The lake is surrounded by cedar trees and the c… Continue

Glenn Miller and MORE!

So every summer here in the city they have a ton of free stuff going on ..and because our lives here are oh so empty and since we have practically NOTHING to do (please note the sarcasm!)..we decided that this summer we were going to hit the local park and see the movies on Monday nights and the concerts on Thursday nights. Last week we saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra, which happens to be one of our faves. They opened the series with a little pre-4th of July show and then closed with a half hour… Continue

American Girl Birthday Party

Well, all I can say is I AM SO GLAD JUNE IS OVER!!!!!!!! Ok, so the month was exhausting, but mostly fun. Kait was so excited to have her party at the American Girl Place in Manhattan. She had an incredible time. Her friends had been talking about it for weeks. I posted some pics so you can all see. I made Kait's dress by the way. This is the fabric I had posted about earlier. All you need to do is sew the seamline down the side..SEW easy! Except for one thing..I couldn't find my sewing machine… Continue

I have it in my head that you lived in NYC and moved to LI or upstate.

Thanks CubanJulie,
I thought it was a fantastic video too :o) I can't believe we're not "peeps" on here yet! I just sent you a peep request....
I loved looking through your photos and loved that yellow paint! I painted my daughters room that color at the last two houses we lived in. It's just so cheerful! TFS!

Saw your comment on the Janome sewing machine. I have that model and absolutely LOVE it. You are right, I have run out of things to embroider, so now my friends are getting gifts that are embroidered! I have done old T-shirts, chambray shirts, towels, a bedspread, and a million tablecloths. I buy them at thrift shops and embroider them, now I have enough for every day of the week...probably the year! Only trouble is, we use placemats for everyday. I still have my Singer embroidery machine, which is a good one, but limited to memory cards (not CD''s). Singer just isn't the company it used to be. I need to put it on E-bay, but just haven't done it.

Thanks for the reply. My daughter (now 43) was not interested in ANYTHING except the critters in the barnyard when she was home. Now she is a fabulous cook, loves to sew, worked at a florist and can do beautiful arrangements, and is a great gardener. Just because we try to steer them into (what we are interested in) crafts, etc., they will do what they are good at and at their own speed. Just expose them to everything you can think of, something will STICK !!! One of my granddaughters will spend ALL DAY doing crafts or drawing or anything else, busy constantly. The other (sister) is not interested in anything except computer, handheld games and a little sewing. But I keep trying.

Hey Cuban Julie! I saw your post on the digital discussion. Go to scrapgirls.com, she has a set of tutorials you can purchase and download - I think about $30. They are awesome tutorials. I learned a lot and keep going back to refresh my memory on techniques. Do a google search - there are TONS of videos/tutorials out there on photoshop. Also, don't upgrade to 6.0 or 7.0...my stepmother has 6 and it sucks. I have heard bad things about 7 as well. I have 5 and plan to stick with it for a while. Good luck!! Kim

Is Potato Leek Soup Crafty?

I hope so, because I was feeling pretty creative!  With summer well on its way, I’m getting into the fresh food groove and inspired to try some quick, simple recipes. The bright hues of the vegies reminded me of a garden party, which in turn made me remember I need to sew a few summer table [...]

They make a bold statement on your projects and they do a great job highlighting anything you put on them, journaling, title, quote, etc. Check [...]
