Is anyone out there?

Where is everyone? I hope you are all out there in your gardens! I know I have been. Right now I am buried under tomatoes. We had a great crop from our raised beds, and a friend had planted at least 20 or 25 plants and every three days she calls for pickers. I have frozen chopped Romas, made tomato-basil soup for the freezer, and today I am doing tomato sauce in the oven. We eat sliced and wedged tomatoes every night for dinner with cukes and have made sauces and salsas by the tubful. I am cooki… Continue

Covered in Quilts!

Wow! Saturday was spent in Quilt Heaven! My friend Maxine (the most fabulous quilter I know) and I and another quilting friend made the 3 hour trip to Sisters, Oregon for the annual Outdoor Quilt Show. The drive is beautiful into the Cascade Mountains, the Three Sisters and Three Fingered Jack mountains shining in the sun, still covered in snow. The town of Sisters is a small town near Bend, Oregon and has been kept in the rustic tradition of an old time settlement. All new building must look "w… Continue

I just renewed my subscription to MJF. I love it! I would like to be more the "farm girl" like in the magazine...maybe when I get settled. That's one of the reasons I hated moving into town, but I still have garden room, etc.

Good hearing from you! I've been wondering what has happened to everyone -- nothing going on at this site. Anyhow, I signed the papers for the house on August 13th and have been working on moving ever since! The whole place needed TLC (all the wallpaper had to be at least 50 years old -- okay, maybe 40) and there were some minor repairs/renovations to be done. The girls were a huge help, and my one daughter's friend did a lot of electrical stuff, etc., for me.
So, hopefully, I will be out of here on Sunday or Monday, with just cleaning to do at this place. Of course, I didn't get rid of as much as I should have, so I will be tripping over boxes until who knows when. I really need a storage shed and a garage! We'll see what happens before winter. Of course, we've already had snow, so I don't know how all that will go.
On top of all that, my boys came home from Iraq on September 14th! Hooray, hooray, hooray! I also had all my teeth out, so I've been dealing with all the fittings, etc. I need to get back to the dentist, and as soon as this house is out of my way, I will plant myself there until these teeth are fitting properly. Also had a four week sinus infection. All nonsense that takes up time!
I got a job at the post office for 12 hours a week cleaning. Not bad - no thinking involved. I'm still plugging away with my booth at the farm & craft market. Believe it or not, sales are better this year. I think people are staying around home and going on short drives to places like that.
I am so looking forward to be out of here so I can craft again! I'm going through withdrawal. I've been so busy with the house, I didn't get a chance to can anything this year, either. I've been getting back into cooking lately, which is good. In fact, you'll laugh, I made my first sweet potato pie yesterday. I've always just done pumpkin, but I had some sweet potatoes left over and thought I'd see the difference.
I have to get busy and do a Buzz Lightyear costume for my grandson, and then get going on those Christmas pj's I didn't do last year. Once those are done and the house is straightened out, watch out! Scrapping and quilting, here I come!

Is Potato Leek Soup Crafty?

I hope so, because I was feeling pretty creative!  With summer well on its way, I’m getting into the fresh food groove and inspired to try some quick, simple recipes. The bright hues of the vegies reminded me of a garden party, which in turn made me remember I need to sew a few summer table [...]
